We’ve been working hard the past few weeks, building not one but two brand new sites geared towards creative writers, role-players, gamers and people who just need an escape from reality.

To celebrate our hard work and the launch, we’ve put together a great contest just for you.

Enter our Launch Contest!

To celebrate the launch of our two fantastic sites, Capturing Fantasy and Escaping Reality, we’re holding a contest that you won’t want to miss. Check out our great prizes:

First prize – a prize package worth more than $125

  • The World of Darkness Rulebook
  • Vampire: The Requiem
  • The Blood: The Player’s Guide to the Requiem
  • Werewolf: The Forsaken
  • Blood of the Wolf: The Player’s Guide to the Forsaken

Second prize – a prize package valued at $75

  • The World of Darkness Rulebook
  • Vampire: The Requiem
  • Werewolf: The Forsaken

Third prize – a prize valued over $50

  • The World of Darkness Rulebook
  • Winner’s choice of Vampire: The Requiem or Werewolf: The Forsaken

We’ll pay the shipping and applicable taxes. The contest is open to anyone located in Canada or the U.S. No refunds or returns available. Winners who already own copies of the books may request an exchange of equal or lesser value.

All you have to do to enter is drop a comment in the comment section. The contest closes June 20, and winners will be chosen via random winner generator.

We welcome sponsored prizes to make this an even bigger event. Anyone wishing to donate additional prizes should get in touch with James via our contact form.

  4. James says:

@ Allison – That’s a very good question, and thankfully, we’ve covered that question (and many more) in our ebook: http://capturingfantasy.com/rpg-ebooks/how-to-get-what-you-want-out-of-role-playing

You’ll really get a head start with that and I think it’s an excellent resource for beginners who have never done this before.

I’m so excited. Damn but we worked hard for this.

  5. gS40 says:

    mmmmmmmm… free books!!!

  6. Ben Overmyer says:

I knew you guys were going to set up an online RPG, but I had no idea you were going to support it to this extent. You can bet I’ll be a regular here!

  7. James says:

@ Ben – lol… we do nothing by halves.

  8. This is so exciting! You guys totally rock :-) I just wonder what this is going to do to my productivity….

  9. Chris Bickerstaff says:

I have just started getting back into WoD using my books from the early 90s. Storage wasn’t good for them….

  10. Harry says:

I’ve totally by passed my email and expect to get no work done today. Good to see everyone here.

James is right. We do nothing by halves.

Need some serious coffee now. ;)

  11. Nicole says:

Holy cows… suddenly I feel like I’m not ready at all! But I’m about to go exploring on the sites. YAY!! Good job Men!

  12. Patriarch917 says:

Nice looking site. I’ll certainly be checking back on this in the future.

  13. Hey guys,

Still working on my character sheet, work’s been killing me for the last week. Great-looking new site!

  14. Question: Is there a deadline for joining the game?

  15. James says:

@ Prop – Nope. No deadline, though when places are full, we close it until new positions open. Some people will stay, some will decide it’s not for them. The first few weeks will probably involve some shuffling.

  16. Scott says:

    Character sent. Excitement level high.

    Scott’s last blog post..Archangel Update

  17. I should like it known that I finally finished the massive project that was sapping all my time, and instead of writing website copy, I am finishing a character sheet. You gentlemen brought this upon yourselves.

Tei – Rogue Ink’s last blog post..Procrastination. It works for me.

  18. Harry says:

@Tei: Like your post today said, procrastination works for you.

  19. Holy shit I don’t even know where to begin. This so rocks! Extra bonus points for being the only site on the web that has a good reason for a moon phase widget! :)

Michael Martine’s last blog post..How Most Bloggers Are Big Hypocrites – Including Me

  20. Harry says:

@Michael: That’s what makes us rock – taking the ordinary a step further. (glad you like the moonphase widget – I like it too!)

  21. Jack says:

Wow, neat contest idea. I’ve never been able to get into WoD 2.0 but if I had the books I’d probably run it. Too bad you’re not giving away the Changeling book. :)

Jack’s last blog post..A Fairy Story

  22. Harry says:

@Jack: After having played WtA and the original WoD system for a number of years, I brought that game to a close with a rip-roaring Apocalypse and never looked back. The new system just had too much to offer and I approached it in such a way that I wasn’t comparing the two systems.

Sorry, no Changeling here. Or Mage. Or Prometheus. I could never wrap my head around Changeling or Mage, and the Prometheans are kind of interesting, but I wouldn’t base a whole game on them.

Here’s your chance to get the books ;)

  23. Rick Grant says:

This is great, guys. I have always defended my role-playing addiction with the excuse that it was writing practice and now that I’m making a living as a writer I can point to my bookshelf and feel completely vindicated (if not slightly nerdy).

I love your Men with Pens blog. If you bring some of that to this game, it’s going to be great. Hope to finish up my character sheet tonight.

    Rick.

  24. James says:

@ Rick – I hear you on defending RPG. I learned to just not talk about it, and considering the benefits to writing and to life in general (lower stress, more satisfaction, personal fulfillment, improved sharp wits…), I’m glad I kept gaming.

And thank you for the kind words. I can assure you we’ll bring some of our style to the game, and then some – remember, this is our playtime too :)

  25. Harry says:

@Rick: It’s funny, looking at how many gamers there are in our MwP community it makes me wonder what we were so afraid of in the beginning. When we first started blogging we made a conscious effort not to mention gaming, or anything remotely geeky.

Turns out, our peers are just like us. Very cool.

And like you, I have shelves and shelves of books I thought I’d never get the chance to use again.

  26. Benjamin says:

I’d like some free books. Consider me entered.

    Regards,
    -Benjamin

Benjamin’s last blog post..Twitter is overloaded!

  27. I wrote an interesting piece a while back about gamers and their hangups about being gamers. The piece specifically deals with gamers hiding their gaming hobby from their dating web site profiles, but including things like hunting that might be more controversial than gaming.

In my estimation, gamers have more preconceived ideas about gamers than non-gamers have.

Even knowing this, I still took my D&D blog off of my Twitter updates, and it was for that reason.

Time to practice what I preach. I’m going to re-add it. That was just silly.

Bob Younce at the Writing Journey’s last blog post..4 Sure-Fire Ways To Make Your Blog Useful

  28. Well since I haven’t played D&D since, oh, I don’t know, JUNIOR HIGH, I no longer have any idea what I’m doing. Rulebooks would be swell. I can already hear my wife laughing at me…

  29. Marcel Beaudoin says:

This looks liek an interesting site. As a new DM, I am always looking for places that can help me improve my skills.

  30. RhodesTer says:

ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! ENTER ME! please?

This comment took me a long time to think up.

  31. DONOVAN! says:

WOD? Haven’t played it in years, would love to check out the new edition though – count me in!

  32. @Harry

Happens to me too. I purposefully avoid to mention gaming on my blog, as that would be way off topic for me, unless I somehow involved my artwork in a game… which I might just do someday.

Too bad you’re restricting the contest geographically… I would have loved a shot at the prize, but I live in Chile.

Vitor – The Fractal Forest’s last blog post..The Bull’s Stare

  33. James says:

@ Vitor – If Amazon ships to Chile at a rate that isn’t incredibly sky-high, we’d be more than happy to expand our geographical limits. I understand the frustration of being cut off, so if we can, we’ll try.

  34. Thanks James!

  35. Rob says:

Looks to be a great resource for creative writing/role-playing. Definitely adding this to my reader. The gaming site isn’t my genre… but have some friends I’ll mention it to.

Wondering if you guys have heard of “Free Form Role-Playing” in general?

  36. James says:

@ Rob – What genre do you prefer? Unless it’s fantasy, the site probably covers it easily.

And yep, we’ve heard of free-form role-playing, which is basically what the site is :)

  37. Snipejaeg says:

I haven’t gamed since D&D in high school. It’s exciting to see this project get going.

  38. Jamie says:

    I am inspired. I only hope I don’t Escape Reality for good….

  39. TuxGirl says:

still trying to figure out a character, but really looking forward to getting in the game.

  40. Wendi Kelly says:

I have been slowly trying to get back on schedule after a ten day vacation. getting derailed by something as amazingly fun as this would be like finding myself the proud owner of a new book store and never ever going home again. As it is, just reading what other people have been writing has been distracting enough without participating in the game!
But I’m catching up and back on track now so I am getting ready to work on my charactor sheet.
    Oh boy!

@Wendi This has been both my greatest fear and deepest desire since childhood! :)

  42. Ken says:

Delicious, nutritious, full of vitamins and minerals; this is what I think of Capturing Fantasy.

  43. James says:

@ Ken – We’re the Special K of the Lucky Charms world!

(ps. if you win, I can’t contact you without an email link… )

  44. David says:

Oh oh oh I want free stuff :)

  45. JAPartridge says:

Love the concept for the site. I’m waiting to see if this includes how to write fiction as well as gamer stuff. Who knows, maybe I’ll submit some material.

    JAPartridge’s last blog post..Reading, Writing and…Submissions?

  46. James says:

@ JAPartridge – If you want to learn how to write fiction, then you should be checking out Men with Pens, our other blog.

  47. Harry says:

You’re quicker on the keyboard than I am, Jamie-boy.

Yes, JP, what he said ;)

  48. Greg says:

Cool! I’m just getting ready to start a new campaign with D&D 4e and a couple of these articles really got my creative juices flowing – especially “Description: Accuracy or Creativity?”. Thanks! I’ll be coming back.

  49. Julia says:

Wow, I stumbled upon the site (on the page describing the different characters), and I would like to say that this is an excellent site! Congrats!

  50. James says:

@ Greg – Feel free to step in with D&D insight any time!

@ Julia – Thank you – that means a lot to us :)
