In early November 2022, Riot Games announced that it would take over the release of League of Legends and competitive mode in Southeast Asia (including: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) from January 2023, with VNG Games. as the publisher in Vietnam market. Thanks to its proven management and operation capabilities through previous projects such as League of Legends: Wild Rift, Legends of Runeterra, and VALORANT, Riot Games has continued to select VNG as a strategic partner for editorial cooperation for upcoming products in 2023.
“Vietnam is one of the countries with the largest community of League of Legends players in the world. Through previous projects, we realize that VNG is an experienced partner, knowledgeable about the market and has made a great contribution to the successful development of the gaming community in Vietnam, so we are very pleased with the results and optimistic about this transition. Riot Games will cooperate with VNG Games to conquer new goals in the future.”said Mr. Alasdair Gray, Riot Games’ director of marketing in the APAC region.
In the first phase, VNG Games and Riot Games will prioritize supporting players to continue switching Riot accounts in the safest and most convenient way. In addition, the two sides continue to strive to improve the ping problem and develop an Anti-Cheat system for League of Legends games and TFT mode. To improve the LoL player experience and TFT mode in Vietnam to be on par with other regions of the world, VNG and Riot are committed to bringing fully updated versions. This will make it easier for all players to access content in the same Riot Games ecosystem, as well as long-awaited game modes like ARURF or Clash.
In the coming period, VNG Games will also focus on promoting the recovery of the machine room market in Vietnam, along with that, the two sides will continue to implement eSports activities to introduce Vietnamese Nam players with a diverse and attractive entertainment ecosystem and many opportunities to showcase talent.
Especially in January 2023, VNG Games will officially launch the qualification round for the DTCL Southeast Asia tournament in Vietnam with the registration period from January 11 to 29, 2023. The top 20 players will be selected from two qualifying stages (from 3 to February 5 and February 10-12) and will then join 4 guests to directly represent Vietnam in the Southeast Asia Round #1 (expected February 17-19, 2023). VNG Games will also update the details in upcoming announcements.
