Baldur's Gate 3 attracts over half a million players within days of its release

Baldur’s Gate 3 has officially ended its early access phase and is exploding on Steam. The latest title from Larian Studios is not only the best-selling game on Steam, but also tops the list of the most played games on the platform.

Baldur’s Gate 3 online player count on Steam has reached 593,788 and is likely to increase over the weekend. This number is enough to put Baldur’s Gate 3 on the list of the most played games on Steam, behind Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2, two games that always occupy the top two spots.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has attracted players far beyond the combined number of players of Divinity: Original Sin (another game from Larian Studios) and the number of online players of Divinity: Original Sin 2 (93,701).

The overwhelmingly successful launch of the game may have caused some issues with the Steam servers. Baldur’s Gate 3 is 122 GB in size and does not support data preloading, so the game can overwhelm the bandwidth of Steam servers. Larian Studios head Swen Vincke has apologized for any disruptions the game’s release may have caused.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is the game with the second biggest launch on Steam in 2023 in terms of concurrent players. The top game was Hogwarts Legacy with a peak player count of 879,308 when it launched in February.
