Bandai Namco Reveals New Fighting Game War Spell at Anime Expo

Bandai Namco’s surprise at the Summer Showcase that took place at Anime Expo last year is a fighting game based on the manga/anime series War Spells. Along with Naruto x Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connection, Sand Land, Sword Art Online, and Baten Kaitos, the publisher introduced Jujustu Kaisen: Cursed Clash.

The trailer revealed that the new fighting game, called Cursed Clash, featured several playable characters from the series, including Yuji Itadori, Satoru Gojo, Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara Kugisaki. Although in the first half of the trailer, the matches only involve 2 characters, in the second half, viewers can see four characters appear on the screen at the same time. This sets Jujustu Kaisen: Cursed Clash apart from Bandai Namco’s other 3D anime fighting games, such as My Hero: One’s Justice and One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows.

Details about the game are currently quite scarce as the game has only been announced, but the publisher has confirmed that Jujustu Kaisen: Cursed Clash will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. The “coming soon” text shown at the end of the trailer indicates that Bandai Namco likely plans to release the game in 2024.

Players will experience much of the Jujutsu Kaisen story, following Itadori and the other characters as they work together to defend humanity against the monsters known as the Curse in modern-day Japan. Players can choose characters from a roster of 15 gladiators, and the combination of characters selected will affect the match. Characters on the same team will have powerful attacks and combos, and certain character combinations will have their own “perks”.
