Baldur’s Gate 3 sets itself apart from other RPGs by offering legendary items that come with unique mechanics or spells. While these items may not drastically increase your AC or damage, they are incredibly powerful and can greatly enhance your gameplay. If you’re looking to obtain the best legendary items early on in the game, you’ve come to the right place. Here, we’ll explore the top eight legendary items in Baldur’s Gate 3 and where to find them.
Note: Once you’ve collected all the amazing legendary items in Act 1, you’ll need to make a decision between continuing through the Underdark or the Mountain Pass. If you’re unsure, our guide can lend a helping hand.
How to Acquire the Best Armor in Baldur’s Gate 3
Each class in Baldur’s Gate 3 has different armor specifications, making it essential to find the armor that suits your class best. In my experience, the Disintegrating Night Walkers are the ideal choice for light armor, the Adamantine Scale Armor for medium armor, and the Grymskull Helm for heavy armor.
How to Obtain the Best Weapon in Baldur’s Gate 3
Similar to armor, each class in Baldur’s Gate 3 has different weapon proficiencies, which means the best weapon varies for each character. However, in general, the Sorrow and Sword of Life Stealing are exceptional weapons that most characters can utilize.
How to Get the Best Items in Baldur’s Gate 3
When it comes to items such as rings and amulets, they can be worn by any class or race. With that in mind, I personally believe that the Fetish of Callarduran Smoothhands is one of the best items in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, throughout your journey, you’ll come across numerous hats, rings, amulets, and other equipment that cater specifically to your character’s strengths.
Top 8 Early Legendary Items, Weapons, and Armor in Baldur’s Gate 3
While there is an abundance of remarkable armor, weapons, and items to discover early on in Baldur’s Gate 3, I’ve compiled a list of eight that I believe are truly worth obtaining. These items are of blue or pink rarity and can be further enhanced with green rarity armor bonuses or class bonuses. It’s worth noting that none of these items can be found in the Mountain Pass. The Underdark may be more perilous, but the rewards are undoubtedly greater.
The Speedy Lightfeet
The Speedy Lightfeet are rare medium armor boots that grant a +1 bonus to Athletics and the Speedy Sparks buff. When the wearer takes a Dash or similar action, they gain three Lightning Charges. These charges provide a +1 bonus to Attack Rolls and deal an additional point of Lightning damage. When five Lightning Charges are accumulated, they can be consumed to unleash Lightning damage ranging from one to eight points. You can find the Speedy Lightfeet in a chest located in the basement of the windmill in Blighted Village. To secure them, you can either defeat the goblins with the help of nearby trolls, sneak around the back to avoid combat altogether, or persuade the goblins to leave.
Sorrow
Sorrow is a rare two-handed glaive and one of my personal favorite weapons in the game. It deals five to 14 Slashing damage, boasts a +1 Weapon Enchantment, and comes with the incredible Sorrowful Lash cantrip. The Sorrowful Lash cantrip not only deals damage but also pulls enemies towards you, making it incredibly useful in various scenarios. To obtain Sorrow, you’ll need to enter the secret vault beneath the Druid Grove and acquire the fourth rune required to open it. I recommend freeing Halsin, eliminating all the Goblin leaders, and obtaining the rune through honorable means.
Mourning Frost
From this point forward, the best weapons, armor, and items in Baldur’s Gate 3 can be found in the Underdark. Mourning Frost is a rare two-handed quarterstaff that can be quite challenging to obtain, but its power is definitely worth the effort. It deals two to 14 Bludgeoning damage and comes with the Heart of Ice buff. Casting a spell or cantrip on an enemy while under the effects of Heart of Ice inflicts one Frostbite. Frostbite deals one Cold damage every turn and adds an additional point of Cold damage whenever Cold damage is dealt. To acquire Mourning Frost, I highly recommend referring to our step-by-step guide, as it requires combining three Icy pieces found throughout the Underdark.
Fetish of Callarduran Smoothhands
The Fetish of Callarduran Smoothhands is a rare ring that grants the wearer the ability to cast Invisibility. Invisibility is an incredibly potent spell in Baldur’s Gate 3, especially for Rogues. However, please note that it needs to be recharged during a Long Rest. You can find the Fetish of Callarduran Smoothhands on a deceased gnome across the Grymdark fast travel point, near the exit to the Underdark. You can either attempt to loot the gnomes while the dwarves are watching, or wait for the dwarves to leave before looting the ring.
Disintegrating Night Walkers
The Disintegrating Night Walkers are very rare light armor boots that allow the wearer to use Misty Step, an ability that proves invaluable when navigating past the Shadow Curse without a Moonlantern. These boots also provide the Night Walker buff, rendering the wearer immune to Entangle, Enwebbed, Ensnared, and slipping on grease and ice. To acquire the Disintegrating Night Walkers, you’ll need to locate Nere in Grymdark. In my experience, exploring Grymdark and returning to the main area revealed Nere’s lifeless body, allowing me to claim the boots.
Grymskull Helm
The Grymskull Helm is a very rare heavy armor helmet that offers the wearer immunity to Critical Hits, resistance to Fire, and the ability to cast Hunter’s Mark. Hunter’s Mark is a spell that allows you to designate an enemy, resulting in increased damage dealt to them. The Grymskull Helm is undeniably powerful, but it requires a character in your party who can wear heavy armor to fully utilize its benefits. To obtain the Grymskull Helm, you’ll need to defeat Grym, the Forge boss, who guards the Adamantine Forge. Our guide can assist you in overcoming this formidable opponent and claiming the helm for yourself.
Adamantine Splint/Scale Armor
Some of the finest armor and weapons in the game can be crafted at the Adamantine Forge in Grymdark, including Adamantine Splint Armor and Adamantine Scale Armor. The Splint armor is a very rare heavy chest armor that grants remarkable defensive properties, such as an 18 AC, a reduction of all incoming damage by two, and immunity to Critical Hits. Additionally, when an enemy hits you with a melee attack, they are left Reeling for three turns. This armor is a must-have due to its extraordinary capabilities. The Scale armor offers similar advantages to the Splint armor but with a damage reduction of one and the Reeling effect lasting for two turns. However, the Scale armor is considered medium armor, allowing more classes to benefit from it by applying their Dexterity modifiers. To acquire these armors, you’ll need to locate their Moulding, gather Mithral for each piece, and utilize the Adamantine Forge. Our Grym boss guide can provide further details on using the Forge effectively. The Scale and Splint Mouldings can be found while exploring the southern side of Grymdark, so be vigilant, and keep an eye out for them. Mithral can be found in significant blue rocks, with two of them situated on the southern side of Grymdark in my experience.
Sword of Life Stealing
Last but not least, the Sword of Life Stealing is a very rare shortsword that deals six to 11 Piercing damage, boasts a +2 Weapon Enchantment, and possesses the Life Steal Critical ability. With Life Steal Critical, you can inflict an additional one to 10 Necrotic damage on Critical Hits and gain 10 temporary HP. This extraordinary weapon is incredibly beneficial for any class, but Rogues, in particular, can make the most of it due to their frequent Critical Hits. I acquired the Sword of Life Stealing at the Last Light Inn, located at the beginning of Act 2. You can purchase it from the young tiefling at the Inn, and it’s relatively affordable. Always be sure to check with vendors, as they often have exceptional weapons, armor, and items. Once you’ve gathered a substantial amount of legendary gear, you can discover where to obtain a Moonlantern.
