Besides the manga/anime that has ended or lasted for a short time, there are famous brands that have come a long way with their fans. While the characters never age, the illustrators age just like their drawings, so the characters also indirectly “have” changed their appearance over the years.

Neko Musume.​

The most surprising change is probably the name of the main character in the Neko Musume series by author GeGeGe no Kitaro. Although it is the same character, between the original version of 1968 and the latest version of 2018, we see that the cat girl has “successful puberty” and has a spectacular makeover, much prettier than before.

Ryuga Rena, the rural schoolgirl from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, became edgier in 2013, before being drawn in a more stylized style in 2021.​

Persona (One Piece) has more human eyes and expressions compared to the 2012 version.​

The same character, but the brushstrokes were completely different between the 1968 and 2006 versions.​

Songoku (Dragon Ball) changes according to the age of the manga characters.​

Inorganic characters are no exception to this phenomenon. The RX-78 Gundam looks more modern and “vjp pro” than many of the 1979 versions.​
