The Internet is an endless sea of information, here people can find almost everything, from useful knowledge to entertainment media. In modern times, the Internet plays an extremely important role, many people even believe that it is a government tool to manipulate information and control people. Believing that destroying the national data center is the best way to free the country from the “oligarchs”, a young man plans to buy explosives, but unexpectedly…
Seth Aaron Pendley, 28, was arrested by police last Thursday for allegedly trying to purchase explosives to destroy an Amazon Web Service (AWS) data center. This data center, in his words, represents “70% of the national Internet.” However, Pendley’s plan was thwarted when a user sent a tip to the FBI nicknamed “Dionysus” posted on MyMilitia.com about his intention to conduct “a small experiment,” which could lead to “death.” .
The attack was planned in late January when Pendley used the encrypted messaging app Signal to contact an explosives supplier. At the end of March she contacted him again, but she did not expect him to be an undercover FBI agent. On April 8, shortly after the exchange took place, police arrested Pendley.
Pendley’s purpose in wanting to “kill the Internet” is to bring down “the oligarchy currently in power in the United States,” preventing millions of users from accessing the Internet. It’s worth mentioning that Pendley was also involved in the infamous attack on the Capitol that occurred last January. Although he did not storm the Capitol, he once boasted on Facebook about being nearby, holding up a piece of broken glass to confront police. The FBI agent posed as an arms dealer during his meeting with Pendley, and even gave him instructions on how to use the explosives he had just purchased.
