Gran Turismo Sport, the beloved racing game developed by Polyphony Digital, is bidding farewell to its online services starting January 31, 2024. This news comes straight from the developers themselves, who have recently issued a statement outlining the upcoming changes. As of December 1 of this year, all downloadable content (DLC) for the game will no longer be available. So, if you’re a fan of Gran Turismo Sport and have been eyeing that DLC, now’s the time to make your move.
According to Polyphony Digital, once the service end date arrives, online features such as Community, Open Lobby, and Sports Mode will no longer be accessible. Custom outfits and other online features/items will also be off-limits. However, players can still enjoy the offline features of the game, including any purchased add-ons. It’s good to know that not everything will be lost once the online service goes away.
While the statement addresses most concerns, it does leave one question unanswered: What about saved progress? Currently, players can only save their Gran Turismo Sport progress while connected to the internet. In the FAQ section of the announcement, Polyphony Digital hinted that during the offline period, players can continue unlocking cars through Career Mode. Unfortunately, the specifics regarding saved game progress remain unclear at this time.
For achievement hunters, it’s time to kick things into high gear. Certain trophies that require an online connection will disappear starting early next year. This news may leave some players feeling uneasy. However, those who have purchased DLC before December 1st will still be able to download and enjoy it even after the online services have been shut down.
Originally released in 2017, Gran Turismo Sport quickly gained popularity and received numerous positive reviews. However, one aspect that left some players dissatisfied was the game’s requirement of a constant internet connection to fully experience it.
As we prepare to bid farewell to Gran Turismo Sport’s online services, it’s important to reflect on the memories and enjoyment it has brought to players over the years. While online features will soon be a thing of the past, the game’s offline experience and purchased add-ons will still provide hours of excitement. So, if you’re a fan of the series, cherish these final moments and let’s continue to capture fantasy together.
