Heartbreaking gamer kills his parents just because they bothered him while watching anime

Recently, in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, police arrested a 59-year-old man for murdering his frail biological parents, who were almost 90 years old. Heartbreakingly, one of the reasons the man acted cruelly towards members of his own family was because they were bothering him while he was watching anime.

This family of three lives together in Fukuoka Prefecture thanks to the pension of an elderly couple. They are too weak to walk normally and require assistance from a wheelchair. It is not clear if the perpetrator has any other job besides caring for his parents.

The Yomiuri Shimbun and The Tokyo Reporter reported that Junji Matsumoto has taken on the task of taking care of his parents, Mr. Hirokazu (88 years old) and Ms. Makie (87 years old), but often shows frustration when they do things. For him, it’s annoying when you want to watch anime. “Every time I want to watch anime, my parents interrupt me. It’s so annoying I can’t stand it,” he said.

The police said that this sad incident occurred on the night of June 20, when Mr. Hirokazu asked his son to take him to the bathroom while the player was engrossed in watching anime. “The anime was getting to the good part when my dad kept calling. He was complaining too much so I took action.” After strangling his father with an electrical cord, Matsumoto also committed the same crime with his mother and hid his bodies in an industrial refrigerator before fleeing. It wasn’t until June 28, when a relative was unable to contact the family, that police arrived and discovered the incident.

Police said Matsumoto began leaving home on his bicycle on June 23 and then boarded a train to travel around Japan (Shizuoka, Yamagata and Akita). However, information about the murder and his escape was widely broadcast on national television, attracting a large number of followers. Finally, on July 5, while staying at a hotel in Kyoto, Matsumoto was caught by police in the parking lot. Authorities are temporarily detaining the perpetrator for further investigation before prosecuting him.
