Publisher XD Games has announced that Torchlight: Infinite will launch on May 9 on PC and mobile devices. This is the right time for launch, following the open beta and early access on Steam starting in October 2022.
The game will kick off a new season called Cube of Rapacity, which brings an overhaul to the game’s loot-collecting and crafting system, and adds a new playable hero called Escapist Bing. This unpredictable troublemaker is an explosive addition to the RPG character roster, fooling his enemies with a flurry of blinding bombs.
XD Games says that Torchlight: Infinite has also been further optimized for the Steam Deck. Torchlight was originally a product of developer Runic Games. They created two games in the series before shutting down in 2017 – the sequel gave fans a smash-and-grab adventure and gripping dungeon crawl.
After Runic was shut down, publisher Perfect World revived the series just nine months later and handed over the Torchlight 3 project to developer Echtra Games in 2020. The third game was originally released. The plan was to become free-to-play in Over the objections of Perfect World, but after the poor performance of Torchlight 3, the free-to-play plan returned to Torchlight: Infinite.
David Brevik, a developer best known for co-creating the Diablo franchise, joined the Torchlight: Infinite development team late last year as a production consultant.
