Yoshi Doll: Pro’s aren’t allowed

Sword Required

The trading sequence begins with you winning a Yoshi Doll from the Trendy Game. The Trendy Game is a minigame in the southeast corner of Mabe Village; it’s basically a giant claw machine like you might find in an arcade.

For 10 rupees, you can try to grab a prize with the giant claw. There are many worthwhile prizes at the Trendy Game, but the only prize you are required to win is the Yoshi Doll. Fortunately, the Yoshi Doll is not on one of the moving platforms, so it is fairly easy to win.

Position the claw directly over the Yoshi Doll to try and win it; it may take a few tries.

Ribbon: A mother’s plight

Sword Required

Mabe Village is home to Papahl, Mamasha, and their five children. They live in a large house with two doors on the north side of Mabe Village. Mamasha had tried unsuccessfully to win the Yoshi Doll for her kids, and she will be very thankful if you give it to her.

Mamasha is always at home watching over her newborn. Speak to her, and she will give you a Ribbon in exchange for the Yoshi Doll.

Give her the Ribbon, and she will gladly give up her Dog Food.

Sword Required

Magnifying Lens: Completing a masterpiece

Hookshot Required

Your final destination is The Mourning Mermaid, the statue of a mermaid on the south side of Martha’s Bay. To reach it, travel to the entrance of Animal Village and then continue walking south until the path ends. Turn west and use the Hookshot to cross the small inlet of water blocking the way forward; aim for the wooden boxes.

Once you have crossed the inlet, walk north to reach the Mermaid Statue. Interact with the statue to insert your Scale and complete the masterpiece of the artist Schule Donavitch. When the statue is complete, it will slide forward to expose a staircase.

Enter the underground cave and walk north to find the Magnifying Lens atop a small dais.

What is the Magnifying Lens good for?

Now that you have the Magnifying Lens, you may be wondering why the entire sequence is required in the first place. The Magnifying Lens has four purposes, and all of them require the ability to see something very small.

  1. You will immediately notice the enemies in the cave below the Mermaid Statue when you leave. You cannot see them when you enter the cave, but after you have the Magnifying Lens they are quite obvious.
  2. Switch remake exclusive: There is a tiny Zora hidden in Animal Village who will give you a Secret Seashell.
  3. There is a tiny Goriya hidden in a cave in Toronbo Shores who will trade you a Boomerang. The Boomerang is optional but very powerful.
  4. One book in the Mabe Village library, Dark Secrets and Mysteries of Koholint, has small text that cannot be read without the Magnifying Lens. You need to read the book to learn the correct path through the Wind Fish’s Egg.
