Metaphor: ReFantazio – The new fantasy RPG from the father of Persona

Metaphor: ReFantazio is officially coming to PlayStation 5, PS4, and Steam alongside the Xbox Series X|S and Windows platforms previously announced at the Xbox Games Showcase event. During a recent gameplay-focused livestream, Atlus confirmed the PlayStation releases for the upcoming RPG.

Persona 3, 4, and 5 director Katsura Hashino told Metaphor: ReFantazio is Atlus’ first full-fledged fantasy RPG and the game will be available in 2024. Mr. Hashino shared a bit about the game. interviewincluding the disclosure of the intention to choose the name Metaphor.

“When I think about the themes explored in previous Shin Megami Tensei or Persona games, the stories are always tied to how people should live their lives in this day and age and that’s also an idea that we really wanted to capture here. So Without hesitation, we decided to choose Metaphor as the title for this game.”

Katsura Hashino also said that Atlus wants Metaphor to become the company’s third mainstay of RPGs, alongside Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. Metaphor: ReFantazio was first revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase event that took place in early June, and much like Persona 3 Reload, Atlus confirmed the game’s launch platforms just days after the reveal.

Atlus has been introducing Metaphor since 2016. Years ago, the project was known simply as Project ReFantasy, with the goal of going back to its roots where the Japanese gaming industry began with fantasy RPGs.
