Loot boxes appear in many games as a way for players to receive premium gear and random fashion items. Loot Boxes give players the chance to get some extremely epic loot, but on the other hand, they can also bring some less interesting stuff. Overwatch will stop selling loot boxes in the near future, before the release of Overwatch 2.
On the Blizzard forums, Overwatch fans have been asking questions about how long loot boxes will last in the game. Overwatch Community Manager Craig responded that the current plan is to stop selling loot boxes in the in-game store after the Anniversary Remix Vol 3 event. This means players will not be able to purchase loot boxes with real money after August 30.

Loot Boxes will continue to exist in-game and can be claimed by players up until Overwatch 2’s release date. Free Loot Boxes will continue to be played until October 4, at which time players will transfer from Overwatch to Overwatch 2. However, if players wish to open Loot Boxes to reveal their rewards, they must do so before transferring to the new title. Blizzard previously revealed that upon delivery, unopened crates will automatically open and rewards will be added to the player’s Overwatch 2 account.
Players will have time to adjust when they move on to part 2 because the in-game currency will also change. Existing currencies such as credits and OWL will carry over to the new game, but players can only purchase certain items in the new store with the two old currencies. A new currency will be added to Overwatch 2.
