PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will be free to play starting January 12. This rumor has been around for some time before publisher Krafton officially confirmed at The Game Awards that PUBG: Battlegrounds will indeed be joining. Join the ranks of free battle royale games.
PUBG used to be open for free for a week in early August during a collaboration event with the popular K-pop group Blackpink. Some have predicted that this move is a test for developers to gauge the impact of moving to a free-to-play (F2P) model on battle royale game development in the long term.
Krafton also provided some impressive numbers for PUBG on TGA, such as players having spent a total of more than 14 billion hours in PUBG since the game launched five years ago. In recent months, the survival game has also welcomed Baby Shark and mountain bikes.
The free version of PUBG: Battlegrounds comes with Battlegrounds Plus, a premium account upgrade that includes 1,300 G-coins, a 100% increase in survival proficiency, and some other features like ranked mode, match customization, and a variety of item skins.
For players who already have PUBG, the Battlegrounds Plus account will be delivered for free in the PUBG – Special Remembrance Bundle with Battlefield skins, Battlegrounds nameplates, and special frying pans.
