PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will be free to play starting January 12. This rumor has been around for some time before publisher Krafton officially confirmed at The Game Awards that PUBG: Battlegrounds will indeed be joining. Join the ranks of free battle royale games.
PUBG used to be open for free for a week in early August during a collaboration event with the popular K-pop group Blackpink. Some have predicted that this move is a test for developers to gauge the impact of moving to a free-to-play (F2P) model on battle royale game development in the long term.
Krafton also provided some impressive numbers for PUBG on TGA, such as players having spent a total of more than 14 billion hours in PUBG since the game launched five years ago. In recent months, the survival game has also welcomed Baby Shark and mountain bikes.
