Capcom announced that Resident Evil Village will be the game to launch alongside PlayStation VR2. The game’s VR mode will be released as free DLC for users who own Resident Evil Village or Resident Evil Village Gold Edition on PS5. This DLC allows players to experience the entire main story of the Village in virtual reality when Sony’s new device hits stores in February 2023.
Capcom Producer Kanda Tsuyoshi commented, “In terms of appearance, the vivid graphics of the 4K HDR (2000 × 2040 per lens) display and eye tracking create a greater perception of reality, as if everything seen by the user was actually there. 3D audio also adds realism, sound comes from all angles and the user’s sense of touch is enhanced via the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller. With a controller in hand, the user can feel vibration, recoil, and resistance when interacting with objects in the world and when using weapons.
Tsuyoshi continued, “The Sense controller also allows for intuitive movements such as raising your hand to defend and bringing the weapon in front of you to shoot, and the player can perform additional actions to immerse themselves in an immersive experience. Holding two weapons independently, attaching a clip to the pistol to reload, and using your knife to cut or stab is a truly immersive experience that transports players directly into a world of twists and turns that Ethan Winters is fighting against.”
PS VR2 will launch on February 22, 2023 at a price of $549.99/€599.99/£529.99 with products including the PS VR2 headset, PS VR2 Sense controller, and stereo headset.
