Konami has announced the release date for its upcoming multiplayer game Bomberman. The game will launch on September 13 in North America and on September 14 in Europe and Japan. The physical release of Super Bomberman R 2 will arrive in North America on September 12. Super Bomberman R 2 will be available on Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X/S. PS4, Xbox One and Steam.
The new trailer also provides more information on the various modes in the game and confirms that Super Bomberman R 2 will support crossplay. Similar to the classic Battle mode from the previous installment, Super Bomberman R 2 will have a Grand Prix mode where players will collect crystals and defeat opponents. The game also offers a Battle 64 mode, a playground for up to 64 players where they compete to be the last survivor.
The newest mode in Super Bomberman R 2 is called Castle. In this mode, players are divided into two teams, Attack and Defender. The attackers will need to find the key and unlock all the treasure chests in the level, while the Guardians must protect the chests. Players can also create and share their own levels in Castle mode.
The game’s predecessor, the free-to-play title Super Bomberman R Online, was discontinued in December 2022. At the time, Konami confirmed that the Bomberman series would return despite the closure of Super Bomberman R Online. And this year, Super Bomberman R 2 will bring back the bomb game of childhood to fans.
