Unity officially apologizes to community for pricing policy

On social network X, Unity said he had spoken to several people inside and outside the company and planned to change course on the controversial policy. Unity’s runtime fee policy will go into effect on January 1, 2024 and will charge $0.20 per install for any game with more than 200,000 installs. This has made many people wonder why the term installation today is quite difficult to define. For example, will developers be charged for multiple installations from people installing, uninstalling, and reinstalling their game? How will Unity fees be calculated for services like Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus?


Unity has sought to clarify its policy that it will only count “new installs” on devices starting January 1 and that developers will not have to pay for “scam” reinstalls, trials, web versions, and charity-related setups. .
